Dusk at Black h on the Isle of Skye

Celebrating Skye’s most striking hideaways

Harlosh is a pair of contemporary retreats on the Isle of Skye, shaped by architecture, landscape and a strong sense of place.

Covers created the identity from the ground up, building a flexible system that could move from signage and packaging to print, photography and the wider guest experience.

Bringing two houses under one roof

The process

The identity needed a strong idea that could connect the architecture with the landscape around it.

That idea became the ‘reveal’ – a visual principle built around discovering the houses and their surroundings gradually. It runs through the wordmarks for Black h and Wood h, where the ‘h’ becomes shorthand for house, horizon and hideaway.

Colour, texture and material brought the landscape into the wider system, drawing on land, wind, rock and sky to create something tactile and recognisably Harlosh across every application.

The results

The result was a brand system designed to reveal something about the stay at every touchpoint. From the website and postcards to signage and packaging, each element became part of the wider guest experience.

Some of the smallest moments carried the most character. Guests arriving at Harlosh receive eggs from the owners’ croft, with custom stamps turning an everyday box into something distinctly theirs.

The identity has continued to grow with the business, supporting two distinctive contemporary stays on Skye and giving the owners a flexible system to build on over time.

Small details matter: Even the most functional touchpoints were treated as part of the experience, like this bespoke map.

Kind words from Jason:

“Adam offers us such amazing inputs to support our business. The talented designer behind our branding, but that’s not the full story. His patience and flexibility are super supportive, yet we hugely value the breadth to his thinking to strive for the very best for our business and our guest experience.”
